The U.S. Mission to Nigeria comprises of the Embassy in Abuja, FCT, and the Consulate General in Lagos. U.S. Consulate General Lagos is the Mission’s representative to the Nigerian people in the southern region.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

1.) Consular Associate

Duties

  • Under the direct supervision of the Consular Chief, the Consular Associate is assigned a wide range of responsibilities in the American Citizen Services (ACS) Unit, Nonimmigrant Visa (NIV) Unit, Immigrant Visa Unit, and Fraud Prevention Unit (FPU).
  • The job holder provides consular services to U.S. citizens, conducts non-adjudicatory visa processing, and assists in investigation and validation studies.  Incumbent also handles correspondence with the public, attorneys, U.S. and host governments, Congress, and other parties.
  • Must be able to secure and maintain a Secret level security clearance.

Education Requirements

  • Completion of High School / Secondary School is required.

Experience:

  • A minimum of three (3) years of office administrative experience is required with at least one year of consular experience is required.

Skills And Abilities:
The following is required:

  • Ability to input data in consular systems with minimum errors, and spot and correct errors made by others (applicants and fellow staff).
  • Demonstrated skills in MS Office Suite and general computer skills including information and database management.
  • Organizational skills, including task management and filing skills; communication skills including writing skills appropriate for drafting official correspondence and reports.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOS Secret Security clearance.
  • Tact and good judgment in dealing with the public, often under difficult and sensitive circumstances.
  • Sensitivity in evaluating evidence and applying complex regulations correctly.
  • Ability to learn applicable U.S. and host country laws, regulations, legal precedents and court decisions.
  • Good interpersonal skill.

  • USD 47,419 / Per Year

2.) Information Management Assistant

Summary

  • The U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, Nigeria  is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the Information Management Assistant position in the Management office.

Duties

  • Under the general direction of the Information Systems Officer.
  • The incumbent assists the Information Systems Center with managing and administering the embassy’s OpenNet network, Classified network, secure voice and data processing equipment.
  • Assist with the Diplomatic Pouch and mail operations. Maintain COMSEC accountability. The incumbent will be assigned special projects supporting Mission needs.

Education Requirements:

  • Two (2) years of post secondary/university studies is required

Experience:

  • Two (2) years of computer-related working experience is required.

Skills And Abilities:

  • Proven technical skills in troubleshooting and resolving Information Technology and Communications hardware and software issues is required.
  • Must be fully familiar with the Windows 10 Operating System.
  • Must have the ability to manually exchange/repair electronic equipment as necessary.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills are required. Keyboard skills that include a good working speed is required.
  • Basic numerical skills are required for asset management is required.
  • Must be able to lift boxes and pouch bags that weigh up to 70 pounds.

3.) Investigative Assistant

Summary

  • The U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, Nigeria is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the Investigative Assistant position in the Regional Security Office.

Duties

  • The Investigative Assistant (IA) assists in an array of sensitive and complex criminal investigations related to document fraud, human smuggling, trafficking in persons, and other criminal issues as directed by the Assistant Regional Security Officer- Investigator (ARSO-I).
  • The job holder provides investigative, analytical, and administrative support in the operation of the Diplomatic Security (DS) Overseas Criminal Investigations (OCI) program at post.
  • The job holder updates the ongoing investigations database in Department of State (DOS) computer systems, and controls access of sensitive information. The incumbent must be able to obtain a secret security clearance.

Education Requirements

  • Two (2) years of general college or university studies is required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in administrative, journalism, education, business, logistics, investigative analysis, legal, law enforcement, emergency response, analytical or research-related fields is required.

4.) Political – Military Assistant

Duties

  • Incumbent is the Mission’s Political/Military Affairs Assistant.  The position is one of nine in the Political section and is supervised by the Political-Military Affairs Officer.  Incumbent is responsible for coordinating Leahy Vetting at Post.  Incumbent is likewise responsible for backup reporting on the region’s multinational organization, ECOWAS, has some action and reporting on Nigeria’s Political-Military developments, and for maintaining Post’s biography database.
  • This position works in close coordination with the Consular Section, the Defense Attache Office and the Office of Security Cooperation at Post, as well as various offices responsible for Leahy vetting in Washington, DC.
  • Coordinate and conduct Leahy Vetting processing at Post. Use Leahy Invest to manage the workflow between sections and with the Bureau of Democracy, human Rights and Labor in Washington.
  • Monitor, analyze and report on ECOWAS, the Niger Delta and the Nigerian armed forces. Also, maintain up-to-date database of host government and other official biographies.
  • Assist in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of US military assistance programs for Nigeria, and peacekeeping/conflict resolution programs for ECOWAS.
  • Explain, promote and defend the laws, policies and interests of the US in public diplomacy, bilateral meetings and demarches.

Requirements
Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, International Relations or other Liberal Arts is required.

Experience:

  • Three (3) years of professional work experience in an office environment with a strong focus on writing and analytical skills is required.

Job Knowledge:

  • Employee must be familiar with the work of US Embassies abroad, as well as the work of the Political Section of US Embassies.
  • Must be able to acquire a solid grasp of US and Nigerian military structures and bilateral cooperative programs through on-the-job training and self-guided study.
  • Must also learn how Leahy Vetting impacts security assistance and cooperation between the U.S. and Nigeria.

5.) Senior Program Specialist, Monitoring & Evaluation (Public Health Specialist)

Summary

  • The U.S. Mission in Abuja, Nigeria is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the Senior Program Specialist, Monitoring & Evaluation (Branch Chief) in the Centers for Disease Control and prevention office.

Duties

  • Under the supervision of the Deputy Director for Epidemiology, Strategic Information and Science, the incumbent is the Branch Chief for the Monitoring & Evaluation, Data Analysis and Science and provides technical expertise to improve HIV/AIDS programs that CDC Nigeria and Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) are collaborating throughout the country.
  • The incumbent serves as the lead person for development of data management systems and evaluating progress in program implementation of HIV/AIDS prevention activities conducted by CDC Nigeria and the FMOH by applying both theoretical and practical knowledge of health education, social and behavioral science, evaluation strategies, and evaluation research methodology to design and conduct of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) activities.
  • The incumbent is responsible for leading the CDC Nigeria on Implementation Science activities.
  • Position is an LE Direct Hire appointed position, will serve as Project Officer and will have signatory authority for CDC awards and Cooperative Agreements

Education Requirements

  • MBBS, MD or a Terminal Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology or Behavioral Science is required.
  • NYSC Certificate/Exclusion/Exemption is required.
  • Experience: The incumbent must have at least five (5) years experience in HIV/AIDS, STD, TB prevention programs at the local, state, Federal or international levels that entailed responsibility for the evaluation of program activities. The incumbent must also have experience in use of measurement methods required for Monitoring and Evaluation of target populations and health programs including quantitative and qualitative operations research.

Salary

  • USD50,180 / Per Year.

6.) Cashier / Visa Assistant

Job Description

  • The U.S. Mission in Abuja, Nigeria is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the Cashier/Visa Assistant position in the Consular Section.

Duties

  • Serves as the primary consular cashier, accepting payments for ACS and NIV services.
  • As cashier, incumbent will issue receipts and run daily and monthly reports. Incumbent will assist on a rotational basis in the Non-Immigrant Visa and American Citizen services units, consisting of 19 Locally Employed (LE) staff responsible for processing more than 60,000 NIV and 2,300 ACS services annually. Screens incoming documentation and information from a variety of sources (public counters, the National Visa Center, The Department of Home Land Security (DHS), mail, and phone.
  • Checks documents submitted by applicants, organizes and tracks NIV and ACS requests according to a complicated set of laws and procedures so that a Consular Officer can make decisions and ensure the legal requirements of the applications have been met. Works in a team to manage the day-to-day functions of the unit.
  • The jobholder is required to assist and provide support for all officers and Team leads as needed.
  • The position requires a high-level of attention to detail to spot trends or potential issues and escalate those as necessary. The job holder is fully cross trained to function in any role as required by the Consular Section based on demand and scheduling.

Education Requirements

  • Completion of High School / Secondary School is required.
  • Experience: Minimum three (3) years experience involving the application of regulations and law, extensive public contact, customer service, or problem solving is required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook, and basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Power Point is required. Ability to perform work with accuracy at a quick, rapid pace is required. Must be able to deal effectively with the public, exercising tact, and be able to work under continuous pressure and time constraints.
  • Must demonstrate attention to detail, ability to work effectively as a member of a team as well as independently with minimal supervision, and strong interpersonal skills.  Must have good skills for drafting written correspondence in both English and local language. Must be able to apply good judgement in evaluating evidence and to apply regulations correctly. Must have keyboarding and data entry skills.

Salary

  • USD19,560 / Per Year.
