1. Intern

Job Description

  • We are offering an exciting internship opportunity for enthusiastic individuals passionate about climate change and sustainable development.
  • The Climate Action Intern will assist in various projects and activities designed to promote environmental stewardship and climate action initiatives.
  • This position offers hands-on experience that is ideal for someone looking to gain valuable insights and contribute to meaningful projects within an impactful organisation.

Key Responsibilities
Research Support:

  • Assist in researching climate change, sustainable practices, and policy developments.
  • Help compile and analyse data, prepare reports, and contribute to creating informational materials and publications.

Project Assistance:

  • Support the planning and execution of projects and initiatives.
  • Participate in meetings and workshops, taking notes and helping to organise follow-up actions.

Communication and Outreach:

  • Assist in organising and managing events, including logistics, registrations, and material preparation.

Administrative Support:

  • Perform administrative duties as needed, including but not limited to document management and correspondence.
  • Support the team in day-to-day operational tasks and project delivery.

Learning Opportunities:

  • Gain a thorough understanding of environmental issues and climate action strategies.
  • Develop research, project management, and communication skills.
  • Build relationships within a network of climate action professionals and like-minded organisations.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a University program in Environmental Science, Public Policy, International Relations, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in climate change, sustainability, and environmental issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and capable of managing social media platforms.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

2. Reporters / Writers

Job Description:

We seek talented and passionate Climate Writers/Reporters to join our team. The ideal candidate is interested in environmental issues, climate change, and sustainability. They will research, investigate, write, and report on climate-related topics for various platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Research climate-related issues, trends, and developments, both locally and globally.
  • Write and produce compelling and informative articles, news stories, features, and reports on climate change, environmental sustainability, and related topics.
  • Conduct interviews with experts, stakeholders, and community members to gather information and insights for stories.
  • Collaborate with editors and other team members to develop story ideas, angles, and approaches.
  • Follow journalistic standards and ethics in fact-checking, verifying sources, and ensuring accuracy and fairness in reporting.
  • Stay informed about current events, policies, and initiatives related to climate change and environmental issues.
  • Monitor and analyse climate science, technology, policy, and advocacy developments to inform reporting.
  • Adapt writing style and tone to different audiences and platforms, including website articles, blog posts, social media, and newsletters.

Required Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in journalism, writing, or reporting, with a portfolio of published work.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to communicate complex issues clearly and effectively.
  • Knowledge of climate science, environmental policy, and sustainability issues.
  • Ability to conduct research, interviews, and fact-checking to gather information and verify sources.
  • Familiarity with AP style, journalistic standards, and ethical guidelines.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

3. Director, Research and Policy

Job Description

  • We seek a highly experienced and motivated Director of Research and Policy to lead our efforts in developing evidence-based research and policy initiatives that support climate action and sustainable development in Africa.
  • The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping organizational strategy, producing impactful publications, and advocating for policy change at national and regional levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop logical frameworks for producing research and policy outputs aligned with Climate Action Africa’s thematic areas.
  • Produce high-quality publications, including reports, policy briefings, and factsheets, presenting clear findings and actionable recommendations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Stay abreast of developments in public policy, legislation, best practices, and relevant initiatives within Climate Action Africa’s thematic areas, and integrate this knowledge into organizational strategies and activities.
  • Analyse and evaluate the existing policy environment, identify opportunities for advocacy, and recommend organizational positions through comment letters, memos, and policy briefings.
  • Conduct data analysis to assess the impact of proposed policy changes and inform strategic decision-making.
  • Contribute to producing Climate Action Africa’s communication materials, such as newsletters, articles, and other outreach initiatives.
  • Represent Climate Action Africa at key sustainable development events and participate in policy-related forums to advance organizational goals.
  • Work closely with internal teams to maintain an active virtual advocacy community and ensure effective coordination of research and policy initiatives.
  • Ensure Climate Action Africa’s website remains current with relevant policy and research tools to support advocacy efforts.
  • Conduct primary and secondary research to inform Climate Action Africa’s expertise in advocacy and sustainable development.
  • Undertake strategic analysis of research needs and make recommendations to enhance organizational effectiveness and impact.

Required Profile

  • You will be crucial in raising awareness, engaging our audience, and driving action on climate change issues across various social media platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a comprehensive social media strategy to increase engagement, followership, and brand awareness.
  • Create compelling and relevant content for various social media channels, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Monitor social media trends, tools, and applications and appropriately apply that knowledge to increase social media use at Climate Action Africa.
  • Manage all social media channels, including scheduling and publishing content, responding to comments and messages, and moderating discussions.
  • Collaborate with other teams to align social media strategies with overall organizational goals and campaigns.
  • Analyse social media metrics and performance data to track progress, optimize content, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest social media best practices, algorithms, and trends, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.

  • Increase in social media followership and engagement.
  • Growth in website traffic driven by social media channels.
  • Improvement in brand sentiment and reputation on social media platforms.
