Job Description

  • We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Generator Maintenance Officer to join our Facilities Management team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and efficient operation of all generators within our healthcare facility.
  • This role is crucial in ensuring a reliable power supply, especially during power outages, to support the continuous operation of our services.

 

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance and Repair:

  • Perform routine maintenance on generators, including oil changes, filter replacements, and battery inspections.
  • Diagnose and repair generator faults to ensure efficient operation.
  • Conduct load bank testing and other performance tests to maintain optimal generator functionality.

Installation and Setup:

  • Install new generators and integrate them into the facility’s power system.
  • Set up and maintain automatic transfer switches (ATS) and related equipment.

Monitoring and Inspections:

  • Regularly monitor generator performance and maintain detailed records of all activities.
  • Conduct periodic inspections to identify and address potential issues.
  • Ensure adequate fuel levels and manage fuel deliveries and storage.

Emergency Response:

  • Be on-call to respond promptly to generator failures or power outages.
  • Coordinate with facility staff to minimize disruption during maintenance or failures.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure all work complies with health and safety standards, regulations, and codes.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to prevent accidents.

Training and Development:

  • Train staff on basic generator operation and emergency procedures.
  • Stay updated on the latest generator technology and maintenance practices.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Keep accurate records of all maintenance, repairs, inspections, and fuel usage.
  • Prepare and submit reports on generator performance and maintenance activities.

 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification or vocational training in generator maintenance, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in generator maintenance and repair, preferably in a healthcare or similar environment.
  • Strong knowledge of generator systems, including diesel and gas generators.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position, including lifting heavy objects and working in confined spaces.

  • May be required to work in confined spaces and at heights.
  • Must adhere to all safety and health regulations while performing duties.
  • May need to be on-call for emergency repairs outside of regular working hours.
