Job Description

  • We are seeking a talented and motivated Assistant Editor to join our communication team.
  • The ideal candidate will assist in the creation, editing, and management of content for our publication.
  • This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong writing and editing skills, and a fast-paced environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

Content Creation and Editing:

  • Create and edit original videos featuring stories using creative storytelling and editing to produce the best content.
  • Cut clips from new and pre-existing linear or digital footage for social media distribution
  • Ensure all content aligns with the publication’s style and editorial guidelines and format content for social media platforms.
  • Could you quickly assemble edits and implement notes from the head of the department, directors and clients?
  • Process, organize, and maintain footage and project file organization, across the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Create and implement graphics, colour-grading, and sound mix, finalize, export, and upload video content
  • Manage multiple projects with constantly shifting deadlines.
  • Knowledge about optimizing content for best performance on social platforms.

Research and Fact-Checking:

  • Conduct thorough research on various topics to ensure the accuracy and credibility of content.
  • Verify facts, statistics, and other information used in articles and other sources.

Editorial Planning and Coordination:

  • Help plan and coordinate the content calendar.
  • Assist in scheduling and organizing content submissions.
  • Coordinate with the team to ensure timely delivery of content.

Content Management:

  • Vast in content management system (CMS) and file sharing mediums.
  • Ensure all online content is optimized for SEO.

Social Media and Audience Engagement:

  • Assist in managing the publication’s social media accounts.
  • Engage with readers and respond to comments and inquiries on social media platforms.

Administrative Support:

  • Provide administrative support to the communication team, including scheduling meetings and organizing files.
  • Maintain and update editorial databases and records.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism / Communications / Film Studies, or a related field.
  • 2 – 3+ years’ experience in video production/video editing.
  • Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite focusing on Premiere, After Effects, and Media Encoder (Adobe Audition/Podcast and graphic design experience is a plus)
  • Ability to operate DSLR Cameras
  • Excellent skills in storytelling, colour-grading, Motion graphics
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices and social media platforms
  • Familiarity with video metrics across all social media platforms
  • A strong understanding of social media platforms and how to optimize video content across these platforms.
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail are a must.
  • Proficiency with content management systems (CMS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience working in an extremely fast-paced and hands-on environment while juggling multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Working knowledge of video and content management systems for digital platforms
  • Basic production experience working with common high-definition cameras such as the Sony Alpha series and video codecs
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
